A 2011 óta aktív Chvrches skót szintipoptrió a 2021-es Screen Violence című negyedik albumának turnéja után még idén februárban is előállt egy új kislemez- és klipdallal (Over), majd a nyáron a frontlány Lauren Mayberry bejelentette, hogy ősztől önállóan indul turnéra első szólóanyagával. Are Yo Awake? című debütáló kislemezdalát és klipjét szeptember 1-jén tette közzé, a múlt éjszaka adott legelső szólófellépésén pedig további hét szerzeményének élő ősbemutatóját is megtartotta, egy Madonna-feldolgozással megtoldva.
A 35 éves énekesnő, aki a Chvrches trió indulása előtt a Blue Sky Archives nevű posztrock/indie folk beütésű zenekar tagja volt, az új szólódalait amerikai producere, a multiinstrumentalista Matthew Koma és a kanadai zongorista-énekes Tobias Jesso Jr. társaságában írta, a felvételeknél pedig a Dawes kaliforniai folk-rock együttesből Taylor Goldsmith frontember és a dobos Griffin Goldsmith is közreműködött (az Are You Awake? című első kislemezdal stúdióverziójában az előbbi billentyűsként, az utóbbi dobosként szerepel).
