Az izlandi énekesnő Rakel Mjöll Leifsdóttir és két angol barátnője, a basszista-vokalista Bella Podpadec és a gitáros-vokalista Alice Go 2014-ben Brightonban művészeti főiskolás art-projektként találtak ki egy fiktív együttest, melyet aztán igazi art-punk/indie rock zenekarként működtettek tovább az Álmaim asszonya című 1953-as hollywoodi film nyomán választott gúnyos Dream Wife név alatt. A 2016-os bemutatkozó EP-jük és a 2018-as debütalbumuk után 2020-ban adták ki legutóbbi nagylemezüket So When You Gonna... címmel, majd 2022 végén a Leech klipdallal tértek vissza, melyhez most egy teljes új albumot is bejelentettek egy újabb videós számmal.
A 2023. június 9-én megjelenő Social Lubrication nagylemez a feminista trió elmondása szerint „hiperbuja rock and roll politikus beütéssel, a testi vonzalom alkímiáját és az életvágyat tárgyalja, felkarolja a közösséget és kikel a patriarchátus ellen, egy egészséges adagnyi játékossággal és szórakozással.” A Dream Wife-tagok a patriarchális társadalom kettős mércéinek nekirontva empátiát és szolidaritást követelő Leech című tavalyi kislemezdal őrjöngése után a most közzétett Hot (Don't Date A Musician) című második beharagozó számban a zenészek partnerkapcsolati inkompetenciáján élcelődnek. Az új albumon a produceri feladatkört a gitáros Alice Go vállalta fel (a dalszerzésbe hímnemű dobosukat, Alex Paveley-t is bevonták), a klipeket pedig Bethany Fitter rendezte, aki már több korábbi Dream Wife-videónál is segédkezett operatőrként.
