A Srí Lanka-i tamil származású brit rapper-énekesnő M.I.A. (született: Mathangi Arulpragasam, 1975) a 2016-os AIM albumát diszkográfiája utolsó nagylemezének ígérte, de aztán kaptunk még tőle újabb számokat 2017-ben (P.O.W.A., Goals), 2020-ban (OHMNI 202091, CTRL) és 2021-ben is (Babylon), sőt közben a 2018-as MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. című karrieráttekintő dokumentumfilmjéhez is érkezett egy kiadatlan régi klipdal (Reload), 2021 novemberében pedig MATA címmel jelentett be 2022-re egy új stúdióalbumot. Most itt egy újabb felvezető kislemezdal hozzá.
Az aktivista-művésznő két és fél év kihagyás után a múlt hétvégén tért vissza a koncertezéshez a pasadenai Just Like Heaven fesztiválon, ahol pár új dalt is bemutatott, melyek közül The One című szerzeményét most stúdióverzióban is kiadta. A szám két hiphop felől érkezett társszerző-producer, Rex Kudo (Post Malone, Juice WRLD stb.) és T-Minus (Drake, Kendrick Lamar stb.) segédletével készült az új MATA albumra, mely a legfrissebb interjújában magát újjászületett kereszténynek nevező M.I.A. szerint „arról szól, hogy az egó összecsap azzal, hogy megtalálod magad és megtalálod a spirituális vezetőt”.
